On Thursday, November 27, 2014, the Knights of Columbus Father Maurice J. Wolfe Council #11372 in Abingdon, MD, prepared and served Thanksgiving dinner for the less fortunate who would otherwise not be able to have a hot meal or family to gather together. The event, which took place at St. Francis de Sales Church in Abingdon, MD, started at 7:30 AM.
Keith Marchiano, Regional Vice President of IT at One Source Imaging Solutions and Past Grand Knight of Father Wolfe Council, along with his son and many other men and women of the council, gathered to start setting up and preparing the food, including:
- Turkey breast
- Mashed potatoes
- Corn & green beans
- A variety of beverages
At 11:30 AM, the volunteers began serving the food – and by 1:00 PM, over 70 less fortunate people had enjoyed a fantastic meal together! Keith spoke of the event, “I’m so thankful for the life God has given me. “
He continued, “I’m very proud of Josh [his son] for waking up early to come help me cook Thanksgiving dinner for the homeless and less fortunate. Say a prayer for those who may not have a meal, shelter, or family.”
About the Knights of Columbus
The Knights of Columbus was officially chartered as a fraternal benefit society in 1882, thanks to the efforts of Father Michael J. McGivney, Assistant Pastor of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, and some of his parishioners. The Knights of Columbus was founded to render financial aid to members and their families, as well as assistance to sick, disabled, and less fortunate members and their families. Father Wolfe Council recently celebrated their 20th year and has over 280 members!
